I enjoy teaching and sharing my passion for math and logic. I also love to see people be able to grow and learn in ways that they did not know that they could. There is also joy for me in learning as well because by teaching people I also get to learn and grow and get to grow a connection to the people that I am teaching. I am a college student pursuing a bachelors degree in computer science with a minor in mathematics. Math has always been a passion of mine, and I love the way numbers and calculations work to bring understanding to problems. I also have a lot of passion for teaching others and trying to help others achieve a better understanding of the material that they are studying along with helping them grow and appreciate the subject that I know and love.
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process with a new student is to get to know them and how they view the subject that they are working on. Whether they view it as a passion that just needs more help to fully develop, a burden to be overcome, or something else entirely. Once I have begun to know this information I like to begin by introducing the basic ideas around the subject or topic at hand to get a better grasp around the fundamentals. This helps me learn who the student is as a person and how they like to learn and interact with the subject so that the relationship is built and the way to approach the subject can be improved for each of the individual students
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a large background in mathematics. I am pursuing a mathematics minor and a computer science degree. I have taken up to Calculus III, linear algebra, and statistics at the college level. I have been at the top of my class throughout high school and college. math has always come easily to me, and I love to share and learn with people while improving my own skills.

Thank you for coming to my tutor profile! My name is Zack, and I am a tutor that specializes in Mathematics, Science, and Writing. I aspire to be an astrophysicist at NASA, but tutoring is something I will never give up! Learning is a very important part of life, but it is equally as important in the educational system. However, it is very frustrating to not be able to comprehend subjects and also not knowing what resources you can take advantage of. We've all been there before; you are not alone!!! That is where I come in. I find there to be nothing more enjoyable than guiding people of all different ethnicities, cultures, and educational history to success. The joy of seeing people grow while tutoring is one of the main reasons I decided to start in the first place. As your tutor, I will work with you to help you have a better, more in-depth understanding of the subject(s) in which you struggle with. It is my goal as a tutor to help you achieve your personal goals, and to find the most constructive way to teach you based upon your learning style and what feels right for you!

I started tutoring when I returned to school, helping my classmates in my two math classes. I have worked mostly with at-risk students, most at the high school level, and some at the college level. I taught Algebra and Geometry for 1 1/2 years as a long term substitute teacher in a high school. While I loved teaching in the classroom, I much prefer the one-on-one relationship that tutoring provides. I want to be sure my students understand the concepts we are covering, not simply memorizing rules or steps just to find a solution. There is nothing more satisfying -- for tutor and student -- than when the "light" goes on and the student fully understands what he/she is doing!

Meghan Malachi
Tutor, Teacher, Instructor
|
My name is Meghan, and I am an analyst who enjoys teaching and learning mathematics. I graduated from Providence College in 2016 with a B. A. in English and Mathematics, and I graduated from the University of Iowa in 2019 with a M. S. in Mathematics. I have one year of experience in teaching Business Calculus and have tutored students of all age groups in courses like: Algebra, College Algebra, Calculus, and Precalculus.
When I first became interested in Mathematics, I struggled to understand abstract concepts, how to make sense out of applications, and how to prepare for exams. It took a lot of time, practice, and diligence to become a better mathematician. As someone who struggled with mathematics, I understand how daunting math can be. I understand what it feels like to think you understand a concept but then feel completely confused on a homework assignment or an exam. I love helping others not only understand mathematics but also enjoy it. I put my students first and work tirelessly to make sure they meet their personal goals.
Having taught diverse groups of students, including students with varying backgrounds in Mathematics, I know that not everyone learns mathematics the same way. My lessons are personalized, thorough, and designed to meet your priorities. I take an intuitive approach on teaching; I aim to help you build intuition on concepts so that you understand how to apply them. This means that I will spend time helping you understand the logic behind certain ideas rather than simply throwing specific problems your way. The goal is for you to approach problems with ease and to not just know how to do very specific types of problems. Please contact me to set up a time to meet. I can't wait to begin our mathematical journey!

I have always been fascinated by my mathematical studies and, having a flair for the subject, there was never any doubt that I would choose to tutor it. It is a pivotal subject on which so many others depend (such as physics and chemistry). I relish the challenge of problem solving that mathematics provides. For me, it is an endlessly intriguing subject, as the discipline appears limitless, allowing so much scope for further study and research. I believe I am a well-rounded mathematician. Pure mathematics is my personal favorite because of its focus on thought processes and problem solving techniques. I hope to make math go from your least favorite subject to your favorite by the end of our tutor lessons. I graduated the top 10% in my class and can also help with any other subject you need help on. I have been consistently tutoring since freshman year in hs (around 7 years now) from children to adults older than I am. I look forward to making learning as enjoyable and easy as possible for you!

As a part of my undergraduate studies, I took many courses in mathematics and an assortment of applied fields (economics, physics, computer science, philosophy). My mathematics education included calculus (up to multivariate and differential equations), statistics, real & complex analysis and linear algebra. My interests mostly lie in the realm of mathematical logic because it dives deeper into proofs and the potential paradoxes that follow. My goal is to be a professor at a university that allows me to research pure mathematics. If there's a math topic that isn't represented in my profile, there's an equal chance that I know it enough to teach you, or that I would be willing to learn for you!
I also spent my years throughout high school and college studying, practicing, and performing music through my instrument, the flute. I've performed solo and with ensembles at many venues such as Merkin Concert Hall, Roulette Intermedium, National Sawdust, and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. As a result of a concerto competition win, I played the Khachaturian Flute Concerto with the Stony Brook University Orchestra (full performance on YouTube). I also started a unofficial flute choir at SBU, arranging pieces for flutes of varying sizes. I have an equal appreciation for solo repertoire, chamber music, and orchestral excerpts; and if you're just starting out, I'd love to help out on your journey!
