As a native Chinese from Shanghai, China, who graduated from St. Olaf College, I have offered personalized Mandarin Chinese lessons and professional cross-cultural communication consulting for more than 6 years in Minnesota. My Mandarin Chinese programs include face-to-face private Chinese lessons both online and in person. My students range from 4 year old beginners to 75 year old professionals from all across the states.
While still serving as a Chinese teacher at St. Paul Academy, I have given tutoring lessons to more than 400 students from various schools in Minnesota including Yin Hua Academy, St. Paul Academy, Breck School, University of Minnesota, St. Olaf College, Concordia Language Villages, and etc,. My work also involves serving as the language and cultural consultant for various business projects and organizations including the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team.
TESTIMONIALS
"I highly recommend Mr. W. as a Mandarin Chinese tutor. He is an excellent teacher, being very patient in explaining, and as necessary repeating, the difficult nuances of speaking and reading Mandarin. He is a master in integrating technology into his teaching method. Building vocabulary lists that students can easily review when they are on the internet, allowing them to review at their own convenience. He makes learning enjoyable by integrating Chinese language videos, stories, and news items, as appropriate, to allow the student to listen and try to comprehend different speeds of speaking and slightly different accents of a variety of Mandarin speakers. I am a graduate student at NYU and am currently in the process of obtaining my masters in applied quantitive research methods. I enjoy teaching greatly and have worked with students of all age groups, from elementary school students to adults. I have been tutoring for six years and assisted more than 100 students with high school and college level Mathematics, Chinese, and preparing for standardized tests such as SAT and ACT. I have had incredible success working with students in the past through tailoring my lessons to the student and matching it to their learning style. Through assessing the skill-level of each student, I am able to present the material in the most effective manner.
I attended an international school in China and moved to the United States at the age of 9. My multicultural heritage gave me an edge in learning languages, allowing me to easily pick up Spanish in middle school. Being well versed in Chinese and English makes me a knowledgeable tutor for both Chinese international students wishing to improve their English and American students that desire to learn Chinese. I am the perfect fit if you're looking for a Mandarin or ESOL Tutor.
My years of experience tutoring students in Mathematics allows me to avoid common misconceptions that students make and develop explanations that students can understand easily. I enjoy showing students how different topics relate to each other. By doing so, students are able to develop a deeper understanding of mathematics. A strong Mathematics foundation will greatly benefit students for the rest of their academic career.
My specialties are the SAT and ACT exams. I, myself, have received a 2350 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT, so I am more than qualified to tutor for these tests. Having received perfect scores on the Math portion of the SAT, ACT, GRE, and SAT Math subject tests, I can show students the commonly asked questions and contents to prepare for on the SAT and ACT Math.
I believe that every student can achieve their goals with a plan that fits them, along with consistent work. Parents have complimented me on my patience and told me that their children have achieved better grades with my guidance. I have a very flexible schedule, so I can easily accommodate your schedule as needed and start immediately.
