I graduated from the University of Florida in 1990 where I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education Grades 1-6 & Early Childhood Grades PreK-3rd grade. I have a valid teaching certificate, ESOL & Reading Endorsements, & ESE credits. I have 25 years teaching & tutoring experience in a public-school setting where I taught K-3 grades.
Before I retired, I worked with the children needing specific intervention help in phonics & fluency. I've also worked with struggling students during the Covid-19 pandemic, & I'm aware of the impact it has made on our children. I can provide proof of my Covid-19 & flu vaccinations; however, proof of your child's vaccination record isn't mandatory.
I can work M-F 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Parents are invited but not required to stay.

Hello to all that are stuck at home with this very strange and difficult time! I am just graduating with a degree in Special Education and my teaching certification in the state of Florida. I have a strong passion for teaching and cannot wait to soon have my own classroom once I recieve my diploma in May 2020. I would love to gain any experience I can in teaching and what better time than when we are all at home and I can provide these students with one on one education. I plan on using a lot of books, videos for the students to watch, games, and instructional tools.

Although I may be young, I personally feel as if it is a better connection to the student. I can find something the student can relate to in order to grasp a better understanding to the topic. I am apart of the IB program as a junior at Fort Myers High School so iv'e covered just about every form of learning techniques out there and will be sure ti figure out which one is best for you.

I wanted to add a few things to my resume about my ideals, principles, and teaching style that I think are important for you to understand me as a teacher beyond my resume.
1) I LOVE teaching our youth, and try to instill a love of learning into my students as well.
2)Each child learns in a different way, therefore I make sure my lessons touch on all styles of learning.
3))Learning should be FUN!! All kids want to have fun, so as a very creative teacher I was able to create games, drawings, movies etc. Whatever it takes to engage them, and thirsting for more! If you bore them, they will definitely tune you out. I certainly don't believe they have to sit in a desk without moving all day either. One ADHD boy I had could NOT stay still, so he spun around his desk (which I placed in the back) with a deal made to me that he HAD to pay attention and be able to answer any/all questions from me. Without being told all day to sit down or quit moving as hius previous teacher had told me about this student, I never would have found out he was actually a genius. He was so bored that he just basically tuned his other teachers out. I was not one to follow the typical desk and chair student placement. We did a lot of reading either inside plopped on bean bags, or outside on blankets. Which, to them, made reading soooooo much fun because we got to go outside with pillows and blankets.
4) My dissertation was on SSR (sustained silent reading) otherwise known as DROP (drop everything and read), and how allowing the students to read whatever they wanted without being followed up by assessment. The students' attitudes toward Reading improved so significantly that the whole school adopted my SSR plan, and the next year it went county wide (*Alachua)! I love to read, and wanted my students to find joy in reading as well.
5) I use a lot of hands-on materials such as rulers, fraction bars, decimal/fraction number lines, measuring cups etc.
6)Vocabulary is key for the students to understand the math and/or science concepts taught and assessed on the State test.
7)Remind students to check their answers to see if they are reasonable. I teach them to remember if the answer is going to be a higher number than what numbers are listed in the problem, then he/she needs to add or multiply. In contrast, if the answer is smaller then you subtract or divide. BUT always double check to make sure the answer make sense. As an example, if the problem was about figuring out how old his Grandma is, then 12 would not be reasonable if he is already 10 years old himself. Or if it is a multiple choice question, and the answer the student thinks it is, isn't an option, then the student needs to redo the problem.
8) There are many ways to assess, just like there are many ways to teach a concept so it is important to explain in ways that verbal, auditory, and/or tactical learning styles will all be able to understand. One tool the students and I love to use for assessing is to have the students reteach it to other students as well. They love to play teacher, especially the grading part. I like to use blue pen for correcting, rather than red as to not disappoint and frustrate the students but give them another chance to do it correctly without seeing a slue of red all over the paper. I like to have the students make up the tests too. I collect them all and hand them back for another student to complete and the test maker gets to grade it. Then he/she explains the errors to whichever student completed it.
9) It is also important to teach about many subjects in different ways so that you spark each child's interests.
10) If the teacher and the students are having fun, digesting, and retaining the information,Then the students learn to become accountable for their own learning, and hopefully I,as the teacher, have instilled how learning is fun and should never stop. I give the students an example of when I first used a computer and how hard I thought it was compared to a typewriter, yet now using a computer is easy for me because of all the practice. And let the students know I still take continuing Education classes to become a better teacher (IF THAT IS EVEN POSSIBLE LOL) to give a real life example of how we learn new things our whole life!!

Our son had a dream to get into the Ivy League. I guided and worked with him to successfully prepare and reach his goal. With diverse technical and English language skills, I am a positive, empathetic, resourceful individual with varied experience in teaching youth and adults. Interested in education, I was certified at one time and thought about eventually teaching as we watched our son grow through private school. At work, I mentored interns and guided professionals, wrote software documentation for educating technical and non-technical users, and did product training for young sales representatives.
Outside my profession, I instructed both youth and adults in learning details of their faith.
My belief in the parents' role in effective education was confirmed as we watched activity at our son's schools and saw parents and their budding adults at the state science fair.
I would find it very rewarding to help your child reach their goal.
