Tyler L. is the founder and principal instructor of Examine It Tutoring Services, which works in and around the various boroughs of New York. Examine It works with a wide range of students, all with unique educational backgrounds. We focus on developing a student’s problem solving ability rather than content memorization.
Tyler is a former environmental engineer at Air Pollution Characterization & Control. APCC is based out of Hermon, ME and focuses on air pollution compliance testing for industrial facilities. While there, he learned importance of applying abstract engineering concepts to real life and often irregular situations. He also learned the value of problem solving in real time and conveys that importance to his current students.
Tyler graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maine with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a Mathematics minor. He currently resides in Manhattan.

I started tutoring on my own approximately nine years ago and I decided to join the WyzAnt community in order to reach out to more students. I have tutored over 500 hours through Wyzant to date and I hold a 4,9/5,0 star rating. Feel free to read through feedback from my previous students to get a better idea of my tutoring qualifications.
My total SAT score was 2170 - M770 CR700 W700. My composite ACT score was 34 - M35 E34 R34 S31. My GRE score was Verbal 158 (78th percentile), Quantitative 167 (94th percentile), and Analytical Writing 5,5 (98th percentile). I specialize in SAT and ACT preparation for high school students. I am also interested in tutoring college students preparing for the GRE general test. For test preparation, I assign a decent amount of homework each week and I spend the majority of my sessions going over the questions my students answer incorrectly.
I would like all potential students to understand that the SAT and ACT are not exactly the same, and therefore require different types of preparation. If you have any questions about this, feel free to send me a message. I also put together my own review packets for the SAT and ACT, covering all the main concepts for the math sections and the grammatical concepts for the SAT writing section/ACT English section.
I am also focusing on helping high school and college students write and edit their college admission essays and scholarship essays (for undergraduate or graduate school). I offer face-to-face sessions with students to assist in all phases of the writing process - coming up with a catchy/meaningful idea, planning out the content and structure, and editing the drafts. The rate for these sessions will be my standard rate of $60 per hour.
However, I am also willing to offer assistance via email for students who wish to have their essays edited without meeting face-to-face. The rate for this type of session will vary depending on factors such as the length of the essay, how many rounds of editing are needed, and the overall amount of time that I spend editing the essay. I am willing to discuss a rate that is reasonable for both me and the student/parent.
As far as my cancellation policy goes, I require notice at least 24 hours in advance for a lesson cancellation. If I do not receive adequate notice, I will charge a $25 cancellation fee. This is primarily due to the fact that if I schedule someone for a particular day and time, I am filling that time slot and not allowing other students the chance to take that slot. Therefore, I am losing business by allowing students to cancel at the last minute. However, I offer all of my students 1 last minute cancellation free of charge; subsequent late cancellations will be subject to the $25 fee. The only major exception to this policy is a cancellation due to severe weather conditions, in which case I will not charge a cancellation fee if the lesson is cancelled at the last minute.
While all of my "professional" and "academic" qualities are certainly important, I think it's also necessary for you to understand more about me as a person. I consider myself a "nerd" and I am no longer self-conscious about it - it's who I am. I love school, but aside from that I enjoy reading and writing. To me, the smell of a bookstore is like that of a decadent chocolate cake to many others. Although throughout the school year I typically only engage in academic writing, in my down-time I write poetry and I finished writing my first young adult novel during NaNoWriMo 2016. I'm an athlete. When I was younger I did karate for about 6,5 years and got my black belt. Now, running is one of my passions. I ran my first half-marathon this past March with my Mom in RI. I don't consider myself fast, but the mental reprieve that I experience during a long run is something I could never give up. Finally, during the winter I take pleasure in crocheting. I make hats, blankets, stuffed animals, and anything else I can come up with. Yes, my interests are eclectic. Yes, I'm eccentric. I think that these parts of me make me a better tutor because I'm well-rounded and I'm always trying to come up with new ways to help my students. Also, I think it's important for my potential students and their parents to know more about me than simply my academic abilities.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I hope to hear from you soon!

Artisan Childcare Center
Childcare, Daycare Center

Our centers focus on educating the whole child: helping children develop physically, socially, emotionally and academically is our goal. At Artisan, our curriculum is bolstered by a solid foundation in the arts. Our primary focus is to introduce music into the lives of all children on a daily basis. Neuroscience has proven that early exposure to, and participation in music leads to a higher aptitude in learning areas across the board. At Artisan, children are provided with a daily music lesson, taught by a degreed music educator. Infant and toddler classrooms host music and movement lessons, while preschool students participate in daily piano lessons! Furthermore, by incorporating activities like drawing, painting, sculpting and acting into academic lessons, children become excited about learning! This excitement is translated into a love of learning that follows children throughout their lives. The talented faculty at Artisan are committed to nurturing each child through the various stages of early childhood. The creative curriculum for each classroom is created by our staff, based on the abilities of the children and built around the Massachusetts Frameworks for Education.

I have been a tutor and peer mentor throughout my time in high school. I was also a nationally ranked Speech and Debate competitor with exceptional grades and GPA. I graduated with honors. I acted as a coach to my speech and debate team and still coach them once in a while along with judging at tournaments. Furthermore, I was involved extensively in the theater department and in fact transcribed a book into a play that was put on by my high school. At my time at Northeastern I have interned for barbershop and was in charge of designing and writing content for their lifestyle blog. The company was called Mobile Cuts and I worked closely with the owner. In addition, this past semester I was working at Brigham and Women's Hospital in the dermatology department as a medical scribe. In the coming spring semester I will be focusing on pursuing my interest in film and will hopefully be an intern at Film Posse, one of the main production companies in Boston for historical documentaries.
I am patient, detail oriented, and organized. I can certainly give references from my past experience. In terms of travel, I am currently living in Roxbury on Columbus Ave which is on the Northeastern campus. I can travel by public transportation or do online sessions. I am flexible with my schedule and will put all my effort into improving the knowledge and skills of anyone I am tutoring.
While I have had a lot of success in school I certainly have struggled with procrastination, time management, and motivation when it comes to completing my school work. However, I had people around me that were able to encourage me and I was able to find the drive to pursue the best future possible for myself. I have always been determined to share the lessons I have learned with anyone who can benefit from them because while you can't live a child's life for them you can give them the right tools to be as successful as possible and be the best version of themselves.
I hope I can be the right fit for you.
Thank you,
Surina www.*** ;

I am a fun energetic junior at Arlington High School, I love kids and helping others to learn and grow. I have lots of experience babysitting and I am the Christian Education Director at my church! My whole job is interacting with kids and their families. It has been harder with covid-19 to find ways to interact virtually but over the past few months I have found many effective ways to reach kids over zoom.

I am Peruvian, 27 years old, currently in Massachusetts, studying English and equipping myself to start my Master of Business Administration (MBA) the next September 2018. I hold a Bachelor degree in Maritime Science and a title of Port and Maritime Administrator. Apart from my business approach, I have always been concerned about children. I have been able to be part of different groups in charge of providing care to children without shelter, giving them food, donating money, participating in voluntary work and teaching them English.
Since I was a kid I had the chance of having enriching experiences being a volunteer for help children in need, which help me to be more aware of their needs, the way they think and how to tutor them effectively.

Hello! I go by Toni. I am going into my third year of college. I commute from Reading, MA. I have recieved an MTEL in Writing as of MArch 2019. I have gotten a background check and CORI as of March 2018. I have 30 hours in total of teaching observation from Reading Memorial High School and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School. I have understood and passed English Literature in areas such as Philosophy, Creative Writing, Academic Writing, British Literature, Grammar, Reading Broadly, Reading Closely, etc. I want to tutor because I believe all students should have the chance to understand the things they are learning and what better way to do that than having someone who went through the same course criteria help? I have read stories by Shakespeare and Jean-Paul Sartre. I have read short stories and poetry from The Norton Anthology of English Literature such as The Canterbury Tales and Beowulf. I have also read all kinds of books while in high school such as To Kill A Mockingbird and Streetcar Named Desire. Featured Review: Great Tutor with extreme patience and creative thinking!! "Curtis is extremely patient and did an incredible job connecting with my daughters. He is very thorough and easy to work with and goes out of his way to be available when needed. He has a well-structured approach that considers their individual needs. He explains problems clearly, quickly identifying where help was needed most, and developed constructive strategies for success. They both really enjoy him and actually look forward to their SAT review sessions! We are very happy with our choice of a tutor!"

About Curtis E:
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn. A literature analysis and writing stickler, he works hard to improve skills and ensure college readiness. Curtis' energy and sense of humor make his sessions popular- he portrays academics in a fun light, akin to what he calls the "mental and spiritual gym" where one learns how to learn while maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
When not working in education, Curtis continues to pursue acting and is currently penning two screenplays. He loves tennis, guitar, cooking, travel, and, most of all, making his wife and kids giggle.

Hi ! I'm Liyah! I am a elementary, kindergarten, and middle school tutor. My rate is 15-20 dollars depending on the level and subject. I have many references, and am online via zoom. My goal as a tutor is to help students gain better understanding of confusing concepts, and to create a safe space within our community. I communicate with parents on their child's progress, and use multiple platforms for easy lesson plans such as google classroom, jamboard, email, and remind. I completely understand that not every child's learning style is the same. I accommodate to each and every student because everyone is different. Some forms of teaching I use are projects, worksheets, interactive games, videos, and more. I would love to work with your child(ren) to insure they can be successful!

I did my graduate studies at Harvard University. At Harvard, I specialized in literature and languages and writing. At Harvard I was a member of an admissions committee at taught in the Co-Curricular Program at the Harvard Kennedy School. I have over 30 years of experience in college admissions and preparing students for the SAT Exam. I have won 3 teaching awards including a Harvard Club Award for teaching and public service while at Harvard.
In my work, I realize that each student is unique and the first step is assessing a student's level of competence, understanding their personality and learning style, and their long term goals. I tailor my approach to what will help the student succeed academically and also in life. As the father of four children, I realize how important education is in determining a student's future and I take my work very seriously. As can be seen by student comments on my web page, my students succeed.

I am currently studying at the Longy School of Music and getting my undergraduate diploma in violin performance. I have studied the violin since I was 12 years old and have worked with many conductors, teachers, and colleagues over the course of my studies. I discovered I loved teaching when I was invited to teach at a summer program shortly after my high-school graduation, where I was designated as sectional teacher for 8th-12th grade violinists. I now volunteer for credit through my conservatory teaching young students after school.
My teaching style is encouraging and self-motivated. I am not a teacher who forces practice among students, but rather motivate students to establish their own practice routines. I do not have a specific pedagogy (Flesch, Russian School, etc.) as I did not learn a specific pedagogy. I take techniques and playing styles from many different pedagogues; I feel that this method of teaching is superior as it is flexible according to the student's needs. I also am available to teach music theory and help with the AP Music Theory exam.
I have learned how to teach under volunteer and paid opportunities shortly after graduating high-school. I was consistently placed in high chairs and leadership positions in both orchestra and band. Now I am evolving as a musician and learning how to teach, along with improving my own skills.
I began learning music theory in the 9th grade, and passed the AP Music Theory exam with a 5. At my conservatory, I often help those who are struggling with Harmony classes 1-5. I have completed all of my school requirements for Harmony 1-5 and am currently enrolled in Form and Analysis.
Whether you are a beginning adult, a student needing help with audition materials, or someone looking to pass the AP Music Theory exam, I am ready and excited to help. Please contact me with any questions you may have!
