I am Peruvian, 27 years old, currently in Massachusetts, studying English and equipping myself to start my Master of Business Administration (MBA) the next September 2018. I hold a Bachelor degree in Maritime Science and a title of Port and Maritime Administrator. Apart from my business approach, I have always been concerned about children. I have been able to be part of different groups in charge of providing care to children without shelter, giving them food, donating money, participating in voluntary work and teaching them English.
Since I was a kid I had the chance of having enriching experiences being a volunteer for help children in need, which help me to be more aware of their needs, the way they think and how to tutor them effectively.

About Curtis E:
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn. A literature analysis and writing stickler, he works hard to improve skills and ensure college readiness. Curtis' energy and sense of humor make his sessions popular- he portrays academics in a fun light, akin to what he calls the "mental and spiritual gym" where one learns how to learn while maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
When not working in education, Curtis continues to pursue acting and is currently penning two screenplays. He loves tennis, guitar, cooking, travel, and, most of all, making his wife and kids giggle.

I am very patient and strive to make learning a pleasant experience. I am always open to suggestions when introducing new methods of learnnig techniques. Afterwards, I make sure to give students enough time to practice the material on their own. Of couse, this method can be modified as based on the subject and students' individual needs. I offer lessons in a couple different styles, depending on the goals of the student
- Test Prep (SAT, SHSAT, Regents, finals): we will identify weak points and maximize the student's score as quickly as possible. If a student starts out with minimal knowledge of the material, we can cover the basics much faster than a traditional classroom. I would recommend 2-hour sessions to start
- Through Learning: ideal if we start early during a course. The student will understand all the material covered in class in greater depth, and be slightly ahead of his fellow classmates. I'll also show how the material connects to more advanced or applied topics, that are rarely shown in class (but which become very useful later in a student's career)
- For fun/for a project: more geared towards a computer science project. If the student has an idea for a project, we'll cover the strategy for implementing it, and we'll go over any tricky parts. The student will also learn a variety of tools to make coding more efficient, such as IDE's, debuggers, version control, Linux commands, etc. depending on the project
