Additional information and experience - Mark Rivera

I am a passionate and dedicated educator who has worked in a variety of academic contexts. After earning his www.*** in English from the University of Texas at Austin, I served in the Peace Corps as a youth development volunteer in Morocco, where I taught EFL classes and led female youth empowerment programs. Upon returning to the States, I served as a fellow in the Community Scholars Program at Georgetown University, teaching critical writing to incoming first-generation college students. At the same time I taught English for the Institute of College Preparation and had the pleasure of working with inner-city students from District of Columbia Public Schools. After earning an www.*** in English from Georgetown, I served as an Academic Advisor at the University of the District of Columbia as well as Interim Director of the Academic Support Center. Later I earned a graduate certificate in Higher Education from the University of Maryland, College Park, where my research focused on service-learning in higher education and its economic impact on postsecondary institutions. While at UMD, I published and co-published several articles in peer reviewed journals as well as a white paper focused on college and career readiness for Campus Compact Mid-Atlantic. Currently, I work as Education Manager for Byte Back, a non-profit that specializes in IT education for adult learners.
