Students from 6-18 years have benefited from my in-person and online tutoring since 2018. It’s been my joy to support them with homework, test prep, reading comprehension, grammar, ESL, and test prep including SAT. I’ve also helped those with ADHD. My love of writing began in high school as the editor of San Francisco’s Cathedral High School newspaper. It continued throughout my higher education at San Francisco State University--ultimately leading me to become a published author. I am also a professional editor and writing coach.
I am not just an English/writing tutor, but I studied leadership development, communications skills, time management, and emotional intelligence for years and I taught these and other skills to adults in the SF Bay Area for 20 years. As a private tutor, I bring all these acquired talents to my online tutoring.
What is my philosophy?
Mistakes are opportunities for learning and change, they help us, rather than hinder us. I encourage rather than discourage while seeking creative solutions to problems or issues encountered in the learning process. Excellence is accomplished by practice, hard work, cooperation, communication, support, and a bit of grace!
Personalized online tutoring can produce great results! The experience of working with a private tutor can be amazingly productive! I can help with homework, essay composition, public speaking, SAT and test preparation, ESL, ADD and ADHD issues. As a writing and English tutor, I use a combination of Google Docs and Zoom or FaceTime or just phone conversations with Google Docs. I love to be of service to parents and their children, as well as being a trusted resource for teachers and school counselors.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read about my tutoring services. My name is Tom www.*** I am currently a high school teacher at a private school. I have been teaching for 20+ years. Most of that time was at the high school level. However, I have also taught at the middle school level. I am most comfortable teaching in the social studies subjects. In particular, I have taught AP US History, AP Government, World History, and Economics. In addition, I have taught elementary mathematics, high school algebra I, geometry, elementary science, basic computer skills, and Catholic theology. As a high school teacher, I also have my students complete research papers.
As a result of my tutoring, my students have generally seen success. I've had students go from F's to A's in a few weeks. One of the reasons for this is that I create learning experiences that fit each individuals learning modality. I can create kinestic based lesson and lessons that work with multiple learning modalities. In addition, I teach students how to study and how to set reasonable goals that are achieveable creating a growth mindset in my students. This accelerates learning and promotes a positive self-esteem.

Welcome to my page and thank you for stopping by.
My motto: Learning is a process of appreciation, wisdom, and knowledge. Seeing my students' steady progression and diligence toward education and their future is what makes teaching so worth wild! Some students may not like learning because they think they are NOT good at it. However, once you get their mind rolling and confidence soaring - it never stops. Those are the few things that I enjoy about one-on-one tutoring. You get to know the students and their family members on a deeper level. You get to understand their needs and what it takes for their engine to start.
A little bit about myself: I have been in the educational field for more than 6 years. I started out when I was in high school, tutoring my neighbors' two elementary school kids, and absolutely loved it. Now I work as a high school English teacher and tutor on the side for fun! Food is my other passion. Both my parents are chefs, so I have been spoiled all my life with amazing delicacy. An inspiring novel or a comical graphic novel is my favorite pastime.
