Hi! My name is Sophia. I am a college student, I have studied Mandarin for five years and passed the AP Chinese exam. I have lots of background on the best study tips for language learning and different tools for better fluency. As a non-native speaker, I understand the difficulties that many face when first starting a foreign language. But with determination and practice, any language is achievable, even if difficult! All you have to do is start.
I believe that all language learning must start with a strong amount of vocabulary. Beginning with the most commonly used words and tested on HSK assessments, students will learn vocab that will assist them with daily conversation and life. To make sure the vocab isn't forgotten, students will practice speaking, writing, and reading the characters. Memorizing how to write the character is not required, but recognizing it is. The first few sessions will revolve around basic aspects of Chinese language, such as the idea of radicals, tones, and pinyin. All teaching will have some connection to Chinese culture and language. Students will work at their own pace based on how well they do on simple vocab quizzes.

Hello! I go by Toni. I am going into my third year of college. I commute from Reading, MA. I have recieved an MTEL in Writing as of MArch 2019. I have gotten a background check and CORI as of March 2018. I have 30 hours in total of teaching observation from Reading Memorial High School and Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School. I have understood and passed English Literature in areas such as Philosophy, Creative Writing, Academic Writing, British Literature, Grammar, Reading Broadly, Reading Closely, etc. I want to tutor because I believe all students should have the chance to understand the things they are learning and what better way to do that than having someone who went through the same course criteria help? I have read stories by Shakespeare and Jean-Paul Sartre. I have read short stories and poetry from The Norton Anthology of English Literature such as The Canterbury Tales and Beowulf. I have also read all kinds of books while in high school such as To Kill A Mockingbird and Streetcar Named Desire. I will be help to homework, reading notes, reviewing for tests, summer reading, essay writing and revision, studying, etc.

I base my lessons on teaching middle school students, preferably 6th or 7th graders, the basics of algebra and preparing them for future courses such as Algebra 1 and Geometry. I'm planning on teaching classes virtually, preferably on Zoom or Google Classroom. We'll meet around 15-20 times for the whole summer with 2-3 meets per week throughout this summer www.*** ; Each class will be 90 minutes long and students can contact me and schedule a 1:1 session if one is struggling or have any questions regarding the material that is being presented. This class will have homework for students as I believe homework is an effective way to practice and master the material. Before the course starts, it is required that each student and t should take a diagnostic test so I'll have a sense of each of my student's strengths and weaknesses. I have been a tutor and peer mentor throughout my time in high school. I was also a nationally ranked Speech and Debate competitor with exceptional grades and GPA. I graduated with honors. I acted as a coach to my speech and debate team and still coach them once in a while along with judging at tournaments. I am patient, detail oriented, and organized. I can certainly give references from my past experience. In terms of travel, I am currently living in Roxbury on Columbus Ave which is on the Northeastern campus. I can travel by public transportation or do online sessions. I am flexible with my schedule and will put all my effort into improving the knowledge and skills of anyone I am tutoring.
While I have had a lot of success in school I certainly have struggled with procrastination, time management, and motivation when it comes to completing my school work. However, I had people around me that were able to encourage me and I was able to find the drive to pursue the best future possible for myself. About Curtis E:
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn.
