Doris Lwanga

Doris is a storyteller, dancer, singer who was born, bred and educated in Uganda. She often uses her experiences and the rich culture of Uganda to enhance her shows. Doris grew up listening to stories around her. Her "Web of Tales, Volume one" won a Parents Choice Honors certificate in 1995 for both the video and audio. She weaves traditional stories from Uganda and her own original stories with music and dance. Known in the Performing Arts world as Namu L., Doris wrote "Shields & Shells," a musical play about hope and survival. She was a resident company member of Woolly Mammoth Theatre in Washington DC. Her credits include Arena Stage, Ford's Theatre, Discovery Theatre, Washington Stage Guild, Source Theatre, Round House, Kennedy Center, among others. Doris has three CDs of modern African music. She sings in over nine different traditional languages and utilizes the Zouk, Soukous, soca, and reggae musical styles. She is a recipient of a Maryland State Arts Council Individual Award.
