My Philosophy: While teaching, I feel that it is necessary to share my gifts and talents in the classroom as well as with others who may need extra help. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring and helping kids see their maximum potential in their learning. I want to continue tutoring throughout the summer as well as into the school year. This area of education is crucial to me, and I want to make sure that the kids I work with understand the content better as to when they had started working with me. My Tutoring Experience: I have worked with children from 1st-3rd grade in all subject areas. I have worked with 4th-8th graders on study skills to prepare them or help them succeed in both middle school (6th-8th) or high school (9th-12th). I have worked with students in middle school in almost all subject areas, including but not limited to: English, writing, social studies, science, and religion. Tutoring and COVID-19: In these times of uncertainty, it has become clear to me that many parents are not comfortable with their children returning to the classroom. Therefore, I would like to offer my services regardless if a student is attending school regularly, as in face to face or if they are going to be engaging in remote learning (i. e. virtual). I understand the reality that many parents have full-time jobs and can't take on an entirely new job: becoming their child's full-time teacher. I know it is common for many young children to become easily distracted, thus it will be my job to guide individuals through their virtual schooling and keep them on track. Additionally, I am flexible about where you would want tutoring to take place. For instance, I can come to you, you can come to me, or we can use a platform such as Zoom to ensure your child is getting what they need.

My name is Hector T. and I am a previous 2nd grade educator with a love of learning! I truly believe that an excellent education is the foundation of a happy life and I am fully capable of helping your student realize that. A problem occurs in education when we teach a lesson in isolation. I will spend time making connections with your student so they emerge seeing the greater picture that is made up of puzzle pieces they have placed! I aim to know my student’s goals and highlight that every academic accomplishment is one step closer. I currently hold a certification in pk-8th education, and I'm confident I could help a student improve academically!
What you will get from me:
1) A thoughtful lesson: I will require prior notice on desired lesson and topic so I can come prepared to execute
2) Progress updates: I will personally email you progress updates on how your student does on exit assessment (every lesson will have one.)
3) Extension opportunities: As seen fit, I will provide extension work for your student to complete to practice skills!
Ultimately, I want you to be assured that I will care for your student just as I cared for students in my own classroom. You can be assured that I will take pride in contributing to their overall growth and success!
I hope to hear from you soon!
Hector T.

Hello! I recently graduated from Towson University. I have 4 years of tutoring experience thus far. Two of those years I worked in a tutoring center helping students from kindergarten to 5th grade work on their reading and writing skills. I mentored at a middle school for a year helping 7th and 8th graders with homework help after school. I recently completed my year long internship where I taught middle school half of the time and high school the other half. My aspiration is to teach others how to succeed and look at the world through multiple lenses. History is told through the story teller. History is only true through that person's lense. I strive to teach my students to remain curious and always question. I provide my students with comprehension skills and writing. History and English parallel with one another. Reading, writing, listening, and questioning are all skills that students need to achieve to be college and career ready. If you would like to know more feel free to contact me. :)
