Hello! I am a rising senior at Wheaton College, studying molecular biology with a speciality in genetics. Along with biology, I also have interests in literature, academic writing, and creative writing. At Wheaton College, I was a group biology tutor from August 2018-May 2019, during which time I helped biology students with difficult topics, homework, comprehension, and test study. I also occasionally tutored struggling biology students in personalized one-on-one sessions. The next year, 2019-2020, I transitioned to a job at the Wheaton College Writing Center where I helped many students with the skill of scientific and academic writing. During my time in this job, I assisted students with editing papers, brainstorming, organizing their writing, learning citation styles, and generally helping them to craft higher-quality papers. I especially enjoyed helping students to write lab reports, scientific literature reviews, and research reports of their own work, encouraging them to blend their writing and scientific skills. Though biology and academic writing are my greatest strengths, I also love literature and creative writing. I took several elective writing classes at Wheaton to pursue my writing hobbies of poetry, short stories, and fantasy/sci-fi novels, and I even won the first place Lowell-Grabel creative writing poetry contest award for a poem about science! My varied interests intersect in ways that can truly be beneficial to a student looking for extra academic support in many different areas.
COVID-19 is changing the way students learn and interact with academic material. Instead of losing momentum during this time of crisis, I would like to propel you or your student through challenging material and remind them of the joy of learning, as well as the intricacies of the world around them. I believe that this can be done while staying safe at home! I would love to tutor students age 7-adult. Please reach out to me or schedule a time to meet if I fit your academic needs and interests.

I'm a freelance university and community college instructor with over 15 years experience teaching and tutoring various subjects––from English literature and essay writing to creative writing, the humanities (history, philosophy, social sciences, and theology), and public speaking. I've taught at my alma mater New Jersey City University, as well as William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Berkeley College, Bergen Community College and Hudson County Community College, and I've given lectures at Montclair State University, Columbia University, and Parson's School of Design. My own writing (poetry, fiction, and nonfiction) has been published in dozens of print and online publication, and I have given a TED talk on fundraising based on my book, Crowdfunding for Filmmakers. I'm looking to put my skills to good use tutoring middle to high school students (ages 13 - 18), college students, and professionals. Workshops and classes are also available, too––just let me know what you need and I'm sure I'll be able to oblige!

My teaching method is tailored to every student’s learning style. I can give lectures, help with homework, or work problems alongside students.
To learn something it is helpful to be exposed to the material in many different ways and formats; This helps to strengthen neural pathways so the information is easy to recall and utilize. Moreover, I try to answer questions and teach using many different mediums --visual, auditory, and analogical. As a tutor, I am always learning during every session about how to better serve students’ needs to ensure utmost satisfaction.

Hello, I have been tutoring and helping children for around 18 months now in various settings – tutoring small and large groups, and private individual tutoring. I mainly tutor Elementary and middle school level in most subjects including Maths, English and Science, and High School Psychology, Science and English. I also can help with SATs prep, SOLs and essay editing or support as well as College application or general university advice. I can also help with coursework/homework in all subjects in term of checking for grammar and punctuation and general flow of the coursework piece. In my previous tutoring placement at a school I, along with the teachers ensured that all the students were able to pass their SATs, an achievement that the school had never accomplished. This proves my dedication towards each child ensuring that they are able to achieve their goals to the best of their ability. Please let me know if you have any questions and would love to work with you!

I am a trained tutor with a BA in Written Arts and Classical Studies, and 4+ years of experience tutoring students of all ages. I work particularly on supporting students as they develop writing, reading, and studying skills. In my work I meet students where they are in their academic process and collaborate with them to build achievable goals. I work to change student outcomes--not just the grade on one paper or test; this work is not simply editing, but rather engaging with the roots of students’ academic struggles and joys and building up from there. I believe in supporting students as they interrogate their own academic processes and their own ideas--and do this by leading them through rounds of Socratic questioning, free writing, and showing examples of model work. I have worked at the Bard College Learning Commons as a tutor for over four years, where I have been a peer tutor and Writing Fellow. I am also TESOL certified and have worked at Bard College as an ELL specific tutor. Through the Bard Prison Initiative, I have gained experience working with "non-traditionally aged" students. I am now employed by Bard College as the Tutor Coordinator, a job that allows me not only to tutor, but also to support, collaborative with, and hold training workshops for the undergraduate tutors at the college.
