I have a PhD in biological science focusing in microbiology. I am an adjunct faculty with more than 10 years of teaching experience. I like to help students to understand the concepts of biology and microbiology and their applications in professional as well as real life.
Through my studies (high school, jobs, and undergrad) i've learned everything from critical public speaking and acting skills, to the mastery of math, science, and english. I speak the slightest amount of Spanish, but am learning more every day. I used to work in San Francisco's Exploratorium Museum where I concreted my understanding of other's learning styles and how to properly commnicate information to my student while doing demonstrations like dissecting cow eyes, exploring the inner ear, compost, lasers, and more! I then worked at an intensive summer camp, and gained more exposure to kids. Through the years I have been informally tutoring my many family and friends. I understand that school is hard, but I love to inspire my students with my passion, energy, knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills. I have also been a proffessionally trained singer since the age of 6 (I am now 19), first in opera, then in musical theatre, and now in soul, pop, and rnb. Finally, I attended a specialized arts high school and graduated with a concentration in theatre-- we did everything from playwriting to shakespeare, modern dance, voice training, and monologues/scene work. I hope to speak with you soon about whatever you or someone close to you may need help with!
Math, English Literature, Chemistry, Biology, ACT, and SAT lessons in Cambridge, MA, USA.
Hello! I am a recent college graduate who spent two years tutoring at the campus educational resource center. I majored in biology and have experience tutoring science and math courses of various levels. Many students are hesitant to discuss their lack of understanding with peers or professors, especially when they are unable to articulate their point of confusion. That's where I come in! I'm here to help in whatever way I can whether that means going in depth into one concept or simply building the confidence to tackle difficult problems. I don't have one specific teaching style because I want to be able to guide students toward a better understanding of the material in the way that works best for them. Together let's work toward that lightbulb moment!

My name is Pieter. I am 22 years old and just began my job as a Research Technician in a biology laboratory at the Tufts University School of Medicine where I am doing genetics research on mouse models of cancer, MS and other autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. I am using cutting edge technologies in order to perform gene editing to try to address the causes of these diseases. I have long been interested in biological research. Over the past 5 years, I have worked in 5 different laboratories at the Yale University School of Medicine, Bowdoin College, Unviersity of Canterbury (Christchurch, NZ), and the Tufts University School of Medicine. I am very passionate about science in general, particularly biology, genetics and chemistry. I am a very organized, diligent and motivated worker and my research has been published in top-tier professional journals multiple times. Additionally, I have a strong passion for teaching and tutoring. I have been tutoring for the past 8 years in a variety of different ways. Throughout middle school and high school, I volunteered several hours every week to tutoring elementary school students with their homework in all subjects. During my four years at Bowdoin College, I worked for Upward Bound and tutored impoverished and underpriveleged students at all of the nearby high schools in all subjects. If you would like references, I would be more than happy to provide them. Now that I have begun working in Boston, I would love to continue tutoring and help students of any age. I would be willing to teach different aspects of a subject, help with homework, and/or give general advice (studying, SAT/ACT prep, applying for college, etc). I will try to instill a passion for science in any student I tutor. In addition to science, I would be happy to tutor in mathematics and statistics as I have much experience in doing so through my Upward Bound job. I do not have a car, but would be willing to come to your house if it isn't too far on public transit. If not, I would also be happy to meet in a public place or at my home. I am willing to tutor any day of the week from 6pm-9pm, or on weekends anytime in the afternoon or evening. I am a recently retired US State Department Foreign Service Officer and US Naval War College professor. With a degree in Biology, I served as a Fisheries Extension Agent with the Peace Corps in French-speaking Africa before earning my MS in Agriculture, which included lots of Math for irrigation calculations. Worked for nearly a decade in West Africa, where I honed my French language abilities. When I joined the US Foreign Service as an Economic Officer in 1996, I scored a 3+/4 on the Foreign Service Institute French language test. I served for over 20 years as a reporting officer, writing hundreds of diplomatic cables on the subject of microeconomic and macroeconomic issues. I also oversaw (proofreading, editing, suggesting changes) the writing of hundreds more cable reports by supervisees. Some of these went up to the level of Secretary of State. As a final tour with the State Department, I earned my MA at the US Naval War College and taught in the Strategy and Policy Department for two years, teaching History and tutoring military officers to write long essays. I have always been a good test taker (scored 1300 on the SAT as a 14/15 year old) and am currently tutoring my own 13-year-old son for the upcoming SSAT. I am prepared to tutor either online or in-person, at a location of the student's choice. I am the married father of three children, ages 8, 11, and 13.
