Tyler L. is the founder and principal instructor of Examine It Tutoring Services, which works in and around the various boroughs of New York. Examine It works with a wide range of students, all with unique educational backgrounds. We focus on developing a student’s problem solving ability rather than content memorization.
Tyler is a former environmental engineer at Air Pollution Characterization & Control. APCC is based out of Hermon, ME and focuses on air pollution compliance testing for industrial facilities. While there, he learned importance of applying abstract engineering concepts to real life and often irregular situations. He also learned the value of problem solving in real time and conveys that importance to his current students.
Tyler graduated magna cum laude from the University of Maine with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and a Mathematics minor. He currently resides in Manhattan.
I spent 2 years tutoring community college students at the RCC tutoring center, in addition to tutoring high school students privately. At the tutoring center, I helped students that ran along a wide spectrum in Math aptitudes - from adult students studying remedial Math, to advanced high schoolers learning Calculus at the local Community College. I also have experience tutoring Algebra-based Physics at Rockland Community College, and Calculus-based E&M at MIT, where I TA'd for MIT's freshman E&M course, 8,02.
I am currently a student at Northeastern University. I was a tutor for math throughout high school and am looking for students in this area. I am mostly looking to tutor students in math or economics, but excelled in all subjects throughout school in New York. I received a 5 on AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Macroeconomics, and an A in Calculus 3 and Microeconomics at Northeastern. I am also a fun guy with experience with young kids, having worked as a lifeguard and summer camp counselor, if that matters for your child.
Prices and location are flexible. First lesson is free.
I am a current student at Northeastern University studying Biomedical Engineering with a concentration in cell and tissue engineering. My academic areas of strength are algebra, calculus, physics, chemistry and fluid mechanics. I am looking to tutor students that are at a high school level, however, I can be flexible to meet other needs as well.
I have gone through my own fair share of tutors good and bad, and I completely understand how frustrating it can be to find the right tutor for you. I aim to be fair and do my best to meet your needs.
I recieved my PhD in physics from Northeastern in 2017. I am passionate about math and science. I have experience tutoring in the science and engineering center at UMASS Dartmouth where I did my bachelors degree. I also have tutoring experience for the AP physics exam. I also can travel (depending on distance) to meet where is most conveinent. I offer services for the following classes:
High scool: Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Physics
College level: Physics 1&2, Calculus 1,2,3, Linear Algebra, Differential equations
Bryant University student with strengths in mathematics (specifically calculus, pre-calc, and algebra) and chemistry
I am available to help at a variety of student levels and subject areas. I was a volunteer tutor throughout high school to elementary through high school level students. I am a student of Brooklyn Tech High School as a senior. I am looking for tutoring jobs around New York City on both weekdays and weekends if possible and preferred. I agree to take any amount of any method of payment.
I am majoring in Biological Engineering at Cornell University. I tutor algebra, math, geometry, physics, and chemistry. From high school, I have tutored AP Calculus BC and Spanish.
I offer lessons in a couple different styles, depending on the goals of the student
- Test Prep (SAT, SHSAT, Regents, finals): we will identify weak points and maximize the student's score as quickly as possible. If a student starts out with minimal knowledge of the material, we can cover the basics much faster than a traditional classroom. I would recommend 2-hour sessions to start
- Through Learning: ideal if we start early during a course. The student will understand all the material covered in class in greater depth, and be slightly ahead of his fellow classmates. I'll also show how the material connects to more advanced or applied topics, that are rarely shown in class (but which become very useful later in a student's career)
- For fun/for a project: more geared towards a computer science project. If the student has an idea for a project, we'll cover the strategy for implementing it, and we'll go over any tricky parts. The student will also learn a variety of tools to make coding more efficient, such as IDE's, debuggers, version control, Linux commands, etc. depending on the project
The point is you will see results and see them fast
2015 - Present, I have worked as Varsity Tutor with more than 300 students one on one either in-person or on-line to achieve their goals for school work and test preps, numerous students of mine have enrolled in prestigious universities such as Columbia, NYU, University of Southern California, Cornell University, Boston College, Tufts, and etc. My students vary from grade school up to graduate school (master and PhD levels), the scope of subjects include SAT, ACT, Statistics, Calculus,Physics, etc.
As a part of my undergraduate studies, I took many courses in mathematics and an assortment of applied fields (economics, physics, computer science, philosophy). My mathematics education included calculus (up to multivariate and differential equations), statistics, real & complex analysis and linear algebra. My interests mostly lie in the realm of mathematical logic because it dives deeper into proofs and the potential paradoxes that follow. My goal is to be a professor at a university that allows me to research pure mathematics. If there's a math topic that isn't represented in my profile, there's an equal chance that I know it enough to teach you, or that I would be willing to learn for you!
I also spent my years throughout high school and college studying, practicing, and performing music through my instrument, the flute. I've performed solo and with ensembles at many venues such as Merkin Concert Hall, Roulette Intermedium, National Sawdust, and the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. As a result of a concerto competition win, I played the Khachaturian Flute Concerto with the Stony Brook University Orchestra (full performance on YouTube). I also started a unofficial flute choir at SBU, arranging pieces for flutes of varying sizes. I have an equal appreciation for solo repertoire, chamber music, and orchestral excerpts; and if you're just starting out, I'd love to help out on your journey!

My main objective is to find an easy way to make the student understand the problem. After making the problem understandable, it comes some "math tricks" to find the result. Once the student gets used to this process, my job is done. So let's make problems no problems any more!
