I am a 30 year old educator from New York who has been working as a teaching assistant and tutor for over ten years. My experience ranges between children still in primary school all the way up to college/university level students. I have experience teaching ELA (English Language Arts), Reading, Writing, Essays, College Prep/Admissions, New York State Regents Exams, SAT Prep, Creative Writing, and more. I also have experience tutoring basic Music Theory and elementary school level Mathematics and history, but English is my best subject and also one that I am the most passionate about.
I consider myself to be an empathetic and patient person. I have worked with students from all sorts of backgrounds and walks of life, and my experience has taught me that everyone learns differently. The best approach to teaching is to have patience, empathy, and understanding. If a student doesn't learn something the first time around, then perhaps they simply need it to be explained differently, or to find a method that works the easiest for their personal comprehension and ability.
I am extremely flexible with my time and prices, so please do not hesitate to contact me solely based on the prices you may see posted above. They are absolutely negotiable, as I am more concerned about helping those who need tutoring than a set price range.
I look forward to hearing from you, and look forward to working together to help you reach your personal academic goals! Talk to you soon!

I'm a freelance university and community college instructor with over 15 years experience teaching and tutoring various subjects––from English literature and essay writing to creative writing, the humanities (history, philosophy, social sciences, and theology), and public speaking. I've taught at my alma mater New Jersey City University, as well as William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Berkeley College, Bergen Community College and Hudson County Community College, and I've given lectures at Montclair State University, Columbia University, and Parson's School of Design. My own writing (poetry, fiction, and nonfiction) has been published in dozens of print and online publication, and I have given a TED talk on fundraising based on my book, Crowdfunding for Filmmakers. I'm looking to put my skills to good use tutoring middle to high school students (ages 13 - 18), college students, and professionals. Workshops and classes are also available, too––just let me know what you need and I'm sure I'll be able to oblige!

Hello, my name is Larissa.
I am very passionate about English, art history, and literature. I have my Bachelor of Arts in English from East Stroudsburg University. I have been a strong writer throughout my academic career and I can write and edit an essay on almost any topic! I can help you organize your ideas into a concise and well-written paper. Additionally, I am a self-published author.
The undergraduate curriculum at East Stroudsburg University exposed me to a wide variety of literary works. I have studied American and British literature as well as world literature. I am also well acquainted with many classical works as I love to read them in my spare time. I am well versed in Shakespeare's plays and poetry. I have taken a few British Literature courses where we studied Shakespeare's works as well as popular works by Chaucer, Milton, and Spenser. I have read: Hamlet, Julius Caesar, King Lear, Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Henry IV.
I have a minor in Art History and I am very passionate about the subject. I fell in love with art history during my first year at college when I had to take an art course to satisfy the general education requirements. I have taken numerous art history courses since then and I completed an independent study in my final year at East Stroudsburg University. I am very knowledgeable about European Art History and American Art History. Additionally, I love Post-Impressionism and Impressionism and have studied the movements thoroughly. I have written numerous essays on Cassatt, Van Gogh, Renoir, Monet, Cezanne, and Seurat.

Hello! I am a rising senior at Wheaton College, studying molecular biology with a speciality in genetics. Along with biology, I also have interests in literature, academic writing, and creative writing. At Wheaton College, I was a group biology tutor from August 2018-May 2019, during which time I helped biology students with difficult topics, homework, comprehension, and test study. I also occasionally tutored struggling biology students in personalized one-on-one sessions. The next year, 2019-2020, I transitioned to a job at the Wheaton College Writing Center where I helped many students with the skill of scientific and academic writing. During my time in this job, I assisted students with editing papers, brainstorming, organizing their writing, learning citation styles, and generally helping them to craft higher-quality papers. I especially enjoyed helping students to write lab reports, scientific literature reviews, and research reports of their own work, encouraging them to blend their writing and scientific skills. Though biology and academic writing are my greatest strengths, I also love literature and creative writing. I took several elective writing classes at Wheaton to pursue my writing hobbies of poetry, short stories, and fantasy/sci-fi novels, and I even won the first place Lowell-Grabel creative writing poetry contest award for a poem about science! My varied interests intersect in ways that can truly be beneficial to a student looking for extra academic support in many different areas.
COVID-19 is changing the way students learn and interact with academic material. Instead of losing momentum during this time of crisis, I would like to propel you or your student through challenging material and remind them of the joy of learning, as well as the intricacies of the world around them. I believe that this can be done while staying safe at home! I would love to tutor students age 7-adult. Please reach out to me or schedule a time to meet if I fit your academic needs and interests.

I am a current Bryn Mawr college undergraduate (Junior) with a double major in Latin and German, and a minor in Comparative Literature. I have been studying Latin for 10 years now, and German for 2. I have tutored English for 3 years as well! I offer tutoring for Latin, German, and English/English Literature. I absolutely love language! If I could, I would learn every language in the world. I want to spend the rest of my life teaching langauges, and helping students fall in love with Latin and German the same way I did.
I've worked with students who need general help to improve their language skills both in the target language and in English, students who want help with vocabulary for the SAT or spelling bees, students who need extra help to prepare for specific tests in school, and students who want to start learning from scratch. I've worked with the students's teachers specifically, and helped parents understand the options for teaching from the beginning too.

Hi ! I'm Liyah! I am a elementary, kindergarten, and middle school tutor. My rate is 15-20 dollars depending on the level and subject. I have many references, and am online via zoom. My goal as a tutor is to help students gain better understanding of confusing concepts, and to create a safe space within our community. I communicate with parents on their child's progress, and use multiple platforms for easy lesson plans such as google classroom, jamboard, email, and remind. I completely understand that not every child's learning style is the same. I accommodate to each and every student because everyone is different. Some forms of teaching I use are projects, worksheets, interactive games, videos, and more. I would love to work with your child(ren) to insure they can be successful!

Featured Review: Great Tutor with extreme patience and creative thinking!! "Curtis is extremely patient and did an incredible job connecting with my daughters. He is very thorough and easy to work with and goes out of his way to be available when needed. He has a well-structured approach that considers their individual needs. He explains problems clearly, quickly identifying where help was needed most, and developed constructive strategies for success. They both really enjoy him and actually look forward to their SAT review sessions! We are very happy with our choice of a tutor!"

About Curtis E:
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn. A literature analysis and writing stickler, he works hard to improve skills and ensure college readiness. Curtis' energy and sense of humor make his sessions popular- he portrays academics in a fun light, akin to what he calls the "mental and spiritual gym" where one learns how to learn while maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
When not working in education, Curtis continues to pursue acting and is currently penning two screenplays. He loves tennis, guitar, cooking, travel, and, most of all, making his wife and kids giggle.
