I am a trained tutor with a BA in Written Arts and Classical Studies, and 4+ years of experience tutoring students of all ages. I work particularly on supporting students as they develop writing, reading, and studying skills. In my work I meet students where they are in their academic process and collaborate with them to build achievable goals. I work to change student outcomes--not just the grade on one paper or test; this work is not simply editing, but rather engaging with the roots of students’ academic struggles and joys and building up from there. I believe in supporting students as they interrogate their own academic processes and their own ideas--and do this by leading them through rounds of Socratic questioning, free writing, and showing examples of model work. I have worked at the Bard College Learning Commons as a tutor for over four years, where I have been a peer tutor and Writing Fellow. I am also TESOL certified and have worked at Bard College as an ELL specific tutor. Through the Bard Prison Initiative, I have gained experience working with "non-traditionally aged" students. I am now employed by Bard College as the Tutor Coordinator, a job that allows me not only to tutor, but also to support, collaborative with, and hold training workshops for the undergraduate tutors at the college.

Personal Statement
I have been a successful tutor for over ten years specializing in SAT and PSAT preparation and in all aspects of language arts including reading comprehension, grammar, and essay and term paper writing. SAT and PSAT tutees have consistently achieved 75-100 point gains. Libraries throughout CT (including New Haven, Wallingford, East Haven, Cheshire, and Bethany) have acknowledged these successes by repeatedly selecting me as presenter of library-sponsored SAT preparation seminars. Tutoring language arts has produced results which are equally striking. Students have improved three or more grade levels in all aspects, including reading comprehension, essay, and term paper writing. These successes as well as extraordinarily positive references from parents, students, teachers, and school principals are set forth in my website: www.*** . I urge the reader to check them out. I am hugely proud of them. I pride myself in bringing out the best in my tutees, in making them feel valued and respected. They reciprocate those feelings and become both challenged and motivated. The results show it. My education speaks for itself: Trinity College (BA, CUM LAUDE), University of Pennsylvania Law School (JURIS DOCTOR). I am also the author of books published by prestigious companies. Education means everything to me. Our work together becomes a successful collaboration. I look forward to meeting you and working with you!

I am a seasoned educator who is student-centered. I have taught and written about nursing for most of my career. I have over 100 publications and two award winning books. When I retired from full-time employment as director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program at New York University in 2016, I decided to take creative writing courses with Gotham Writers and wrote short stories, poems, and essays that won contests. That is why I am able to teach essay writing from both an academic and creative perspective. I also taught my own children how to write when they were in high school. Mind you, I never wrote their papers for them, but helped them create and pen their ideas before I gave advice on how to improve their work. My son became an English major in college (what better compliment to me), and my daughter became an attorney.

The age range I usually tutor from is like 4-14 but sometimes I also do 1-16 it depends on how in need you are of a tutor. Somedays when I'm too busy I still squeeze people into my schedule that is looking for a tutor. Tutoring kids has just been something I love to do. I hate to see kids struggling and not being able to get the help they need. I have almost tutored worldwide online, so I have seen the different ways students learn and struggle and that is what helps know what way to teach them and how much help they need.

I am a 30 year old educator from New York who has been working as a teaching assistant and tutor for over ten years. My experience ranges between children still in primary school all the way up to college/university level students. I have experience teaching ELA (English Language Arts), Reading, Writing, Essays, College Prep/Admissions, New York State Regents Exams, SAT Prep, Creative Writing, and more. I also have experience tutoring basic Music Theory and elementary school level Mathematics and history, but English is my best subject and also one that I am the most passionate about.
I consider myself to be an empathetic and patient person. I have worked with students from all sorts of backgrounds and walks of life, and my experience has taught me that everyone learns differently. The best approach to teaching is to have patience, empathy, and understanding. If a student doesn't learn something the first time around, then perhaps they simply need it to be explained differently, or to find a method that works the easiest for their personal comprehension and ability.
I am extremely flexible with my time and prices, so please do not hesitate to contact me solely based on the prices you may see posted above. They are absolutely negotiable, as I am more concerned about helping those who need tutoring than a set price range.
I look forward to hearing from you, and look forward to working together to help you reach your personal academic goals! Talk to you soon!

As far as it comes to general education: I've been there, and I've done that. Having said that, I'd like to denote the absolute importance of true learning and actual knowledge of a subject - something that is difficult to ascertain in a classroom where you are simply going through the motions of socialisation.
So if you're looking to cut through the mundane and get a deeper understanding of some material, or if you're looking for someone to help you game the system to turn busy work into light work - then I'm your guy.
Also, don't be discouraged by the thought that I won't be able to translate the material well to someone that isn't accustomed to AP classes, rather, consider it like so: I can help provide that deeper "AP analysis and understanding" without all of the "rigor", or rather, all the busy work, cramming material, www.*** it as getting a taste of an AP experience through a much friendlier, understanding, and eloquent medium that has seen what works and what doesn't work in terms of teaching students, and can therefore pick and choose the good from the bad to help you make sense of the www.*** said that, here are some of my credentials:I've taken 11 APs throughout my high school career:-AP Economics (5/4)-AP Lang and Comp (5)-AP Calc BC (3)-AP Physics 1 (3)-AP US History (5)-AP Psych (4)-AP Lit and Comp (-)-AP Comp Sci A (-)-AP Statistics (-)-AP Physics C (-)-AP French Lang (-)I have a 97(dot)91/100 weighted GPA, which translates in practicality to a 4(dot) www.*** seems this website censors dots as websites, which is a bit odd.

Through my studies (high school, jobs, and undergrad) i've learned everything from critical public speaking and acting skills, to the mastery of math, science, and english. I speak the slightest amount of Spanish, but am learning more every day. I used to work in San Francisco's Exploratorium Museum where I concreted my understanding of other's learning styles and how to properly commnicate information to my student while doing demonstrations like dissecting cow eyes, exploring the inner ear, compost, lasers, and more! I then worked at an intensive summer camp, and gained more exposure to kids. Through the years I have been informally tutoring my many family and friends. I understand that school is hard, but I love to inspire my students with my passion, energy, knowledge, critical thinking, and communication skills. I have also been a proffessionally trained singer since the age of 6 (I am now 19), first in opera, then in musical theatre, and now in soul, pop, and rnb. Finally, I attended a specialized arts high school and graduated with a concentration in theatre-- we did everything from playwriting to shakespeare, modern dance, voice training, and monologues/scene work. I hope to speak with you soon about whatever you or someone close to you may need help with!

Hi there! My name is Em (Emily) J., and I am a 28 year-old recent gradute of Duke University's ABSN (nursing) program. I also earned a BA in biology from Colby College all the way up in Waterville, ME! I am an oncology travel nurse, and my contracts take me all over the country! My current contract is based out of NYC where my family also www.*** ;
My tutoring experience is pretty dense; I have been tutoring since I was a sophomore in high school (chemistry and English), and I have continued to tutor in both my undergraduate (biology, chemistry, writing) and graduate (nursing pathophysiology and pharmacology) settings. My tutoring style is very engaging; I absolutely love to teach, but I also like to quiz my students to make sure that they are understanding the material that I am presenting to them. My favorite method is the teach-back method where I ask students to pretend I have no knowledge of the material and teach me what they know. This helps me establish a basis of understanding and helps me to tailor a plan of action with students on an individual basis. I am also very open to questions and feedback, and I always let the student take the reins in terms of planning how the session will proceed.
I am very responsive by email ***@*** and I am more than happy to negotiate on prices! Being a nurse, my schedule will vary week to week, but I am more than happy to try accomodate students' schedules as best as I can. I look forward to hearing from you!
Warmly,
Em J.

I started tutoring on my own approximately nine years ago and I decided to join the WyzAnt community in order to reach out to more students. I have tutored over 500 hours through Wyzant to date and I hold a 4,9/5,0 star rating. Feel free to read through feedback from my previous students to get a better idea of my tutoring qualifications.
My total SAT score was 2170 - M770 CR700 W700. My composite ACT score was 34 - M35 E34 R34 S31. My GRE score was Verbal 158 (78th percentile), Quantitative 167 (94th percentile), and Analytical Writing 5,5 (98th percentile). I specialize in SAT and ACT preparation for high school students. I am also interested in tutoring college students preparing for the GRE general test. For test preparation, I assign a decent amount of homework each week and I spend the majority of my sessions going over the questions my students answer incorrectly.
I would like all potential students to understand that the SAT and ACT are not exactly the same, and therefore require different types of preparation. If you have any questions about this, feel free to send me a message. I also put together my own review packets for the SAT and ACT, covering all the main concepts for the math sections and the grammatical concepts for the SAT writing section/ACT English section.
I am also focusing on helping high school and college students write and edit their college admission essays and scholarship essays (for undergraduate or graduate school). I offer face-to-face sessions with students to assist in all phases of the writing process - coming up with a catchy/meaningful idea, planning out the content and structure, and editing the drafts. The rate for these sessions will be my standard rate of $60 per hour.
However, I am also willing to offer assistance via email for students who wish to have their essays edited without meeting face-to-face. The rate for this type of session will vary depending on factors such as the length of the essay, how many rounds of editing are needed, and the overall amount of time that I spend editing the essay. I am willing to discuss a rate that is reasonable for both me and the student/parent.
As far as my cancellation policy goes, I require notice at least 24 hours in advance for a lesson cancellation. If I do not receive adequate notice, I will charge a $25 cancellation fee. This is primarily due to the fact that if I schedule someone for a particular day and time, I am filling that time slot and not allowing other students the chance to take that slot. Therefore, I am losing business by allowing students to cancel at the last minute. However, I offer all of my students 1 last minute cancellation free of charge; subsequent late cancellations will be subject to the $25 fee. The only major exception to this policy is a cancellation due to severe weather conditions, in which case I will not charge a cancellation fee if the lesson is cancelled at the last minute.
While all of my "professional" and "academic" qualities are certainly important, I think it's also necessary for you to understand more about me as a person. I consider myself a "nerd" and I am no longer self-conscious about it - it's who I am. I love school, but aside from that I enjoy reading and writing. To me, the smell of a bookstore is like that of a decadent chocolate cake to many others. Although throughout the school year I typically only engage in academic writing, in my down-time I write poetry and I finished writing my first young adult novel during NaNoWriMo 2016. I'm an athlete. When I was younger I did karate for about 6,5 years and got my black belt. Now, running is one of my passions. I ran my first half-marathon this past March with my Mom in RI. I don't consider myself fast, but the mental reprieve that I experience during a long run is something I could never give up. Finally, during the winter I take pleasure in crocheting. I make hats, blankets, stuffed animals, and anything else I can come up with. Yes, my interests are eclectic. Yes, I'm eccentric. I think that these parts of me make me a better tutor because I'm well-rounded and I'm always trying to come up with new ways to help my students. Also, I think it's important for my potential students and their parents to know more about me than simply my academic abilities.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I hope to hear from you soon!

I have been a tutor and peer mentor throughout my time in high school. I was also a nationally ranked Speech and Debate competitor with exceptional grades and GPA. I graduated with honors. I acted as a coach to my speech and debate team and still coach them once in a while along with judging at tournaments. Furthermore, I was involved extensively in the theater department and in fact transcribed a book into a play that was put on by my high school. At my time at Northeastern I have interned for barbershop and was in charge of designing and writing content for their lifestyle blog. The company was called Mobile Cuts and I worked closely with the owner. In addition, this past semester I was working at Brigham and Women's Hospital in the dermatology department as a medical scribe. In the coming spring semester I will be focusing on pursuing my interest in film and will hopefully be an intern at Film Posse, one of the main production companies in Boston for historical documentaries.
I am patient, detail oriented, and organized. I can certainly give references from my past experience. In terms of travel, I am currently living in Roxbury on Columbus Ave which is on the Northeastern campus. I can travel by public transportation or do online sessions. I am flexible with my schedule and will put all my effort into improving the knowledge and skills of anyone I am tutoring.
While I have had a lot of success in school I certainly have struggled with procrastination, time management, and motivation when it comes to completing my school work. However, I had people around me that were able to encourage me and I was able to find the drive to pursue the best future possible for myself. I have always been determined to share the lessons I have learned with anyone who can benefit from them because while you can't live a child's life for them you can give them the right tools to be as successful as possible and be the best version of themselves.
I hope I can be the right fit for you.
Thank you,
Surina www.*** ;

Featured Review: Great Tutor with extreme patience and creative thinking!! "Curtis is extremely patient and did an incredible job connecting with my daughters. He is very thorough and easy to work with and goes out of his way to be available when needed. He has a well-structured approach that considers their individual needs. He explains problems clearly, quickly identifying where help was needed most, and developed constructive strategies for success. They both really enjoy him and actually look forward to their SAT review sessions! We are very happy with our choice of a tutor!"

About Curtis E:
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn. A literature analysis and writing stickler, he works hard to improve skills and ensure college readiness. Curtis' energy and sense of humor make his sessions popular- he portrays academics in a fun light, akin to what he calls the "mental and spiritual gym" where one learns how to learn while maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
When not working in education, Curtis continues to pursue acting and is currently penning two screenplays. He loves tennis, guitar, cooking, travel, and, most of all, making his wife and kids giggle.

I'm a freelance university and community college instructor with over 15 years experience teaching and tutoring various subjects––from English literature and essay writing to creative writing, the humanities (history, philosophy, social sciences, and theology), and public speaking. I've taught at my alma mater New Jersey City University, as well as William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Berkeley College, Bergen Community College and Hudson County Community College, and I've given lectures at Montclair State University, Columbia University, and Parson's School of Design. My own writing (poetry, fiction, and nonfiction) has been published in dozens of print and online publication, and I have given a TED talk on fundraising based on my book, Crowdfunding for Filmmakers. I'm looking to put my skills to good use tutoring middle to high school students (ages 13 - 18), college students, and professionals. Workshops and classes are also available, too––just let me know what you need and I'm sure I'll be able to oblige!

In college, I had the opportunity to be an academic fellow. As an Academic Fellow, I meet one on one with the students to help them improve their writing. I found that I enjoy helping people improve their writing and become engaged with the material.
I am willing to help with college writing and creative writing.
I also went to a very competitive high school where I got an International Bacalaureate deploma. I found that the key to doing well in school was feeling engaged with the material. I found that I could do this by staying motivated and a few key study skills. I'm happy to help high school students to become better motived so to impove study skills.

Hi, I'm Victoria! I am currently in college pursuing a major in Adolescent Education and English. I enjoy reading and have excelled in my English classes throughout high school and college. I worked often with my peers, tutoring them in various subjects including English, math, Italian, and science. I work well with other students as I have worked with other students throughout school. I have worked with students in my grade, as well as older and younger students. I was always more than willing to help when they asked, as I enjoying helping them with their work. It is also good experience to go along with my progress with my English and education class, and that reflects back into my tutoring lessons.
I have worked hard with English for many years. It is considered to be my strongest subject. Reading is one of my passions and I enjoying sharing that with others. Many of my professors have commented that my writing style is professional for a student my age. As for proofreading, I take a lot of time looking over spelling, punctuation, and grammar, not only in my own work, but also for my peers.
I am very personal with other students and I am excited to work with you! I have a flexible schedule and I respond quickly to messages. I do request that you notify me about a cancelation 24 hours prior to the lesson. If you have any questions for me about my lessons or scheduling, feel free to send me a message and I will gladly answer your questions!
