My teaching method is tailored to every student’s learning style. I can give lectures, help with homework, or work problems alongside students.
To learn something it is helpful to be exposed to the material in many different ways and formats; This helps to strengthen neural pathways so the information is easy to recall and utilize. Moreover, I try to answer questions and teach using many different mediums --visual, auditory, and analogical. As a tutor, I am always learning during every session about how to better serve students’ needs to ensure utmost satisfaction.

My name is Hector T. and I am a previous 2nd grade educator with a love of learning! I truly believe that an excellent education is the foundation of a happy life and I am fully capable of helping your student realize that. A problem occurs in education when we teach a lesson in isolation. I will spend time making connections with your student so they emerge seeing the greater picture that is made up of puzzle pieces they have placed! I aim to know my student’s goals and highlight that every academic accomplishment is one step closer. I currently hold a certification in pk-8th education, and I'm confident I could help a student improve academically!
What you will get from me:
1) A thoughtful lesson: I will require prior notice on desired lesson and topic so I can come prepared to execute
2) Progress updates: I will personally email you progress updates on how your student does on exit assessment (every lesson will have one.)
3) Extension opportunities: As seen fit, I will provide extension work for your student to complete to practice skills!
Ultimately, I want you to be assured that I will care for your student just as I cared for students in my own classroom. You can be assured that I will take pride in contributing to their overall growth and success!
I hope to hear from you soon!
Hector T.

I have 12 years of experience as a teacher and tutor. I believe in finding new and innovative methods of teaching to help students succeed. Each student is unique and what may work for one may not work for another, that is why I take my time to ensure I prepare lessons that are appropriate for each student individually that will help him/her develop the skills needed to improve in class. I have experience working with different age groups and with students with learning disabilities. I have a passion for teaching. I believe every student has the ability to succeed. Sometimes we just need the extra help and someone to care and believe in us to show us the way. I want to continue to be that person for students, someone they can lean on, and help them in their journey to success.

After having to take a brief leave of absence in Spring of 2018, I am back and better than ever and ready to help you or your child(ren) improve your reading skills including comprehension and oral practice, or your writing skills from beginning comprehension and handwriting, through creative writing and essay projects. Need assistance with APA formating or researching your local library? I can help with that too! Do you need extra patience and understanding while you gain confidence in your ability to read, recite and/or write? I have over four (4) years experience working with pre-school and special needs individuals and will be happy to sit with you and work through whatever challenges you are facing until you reach your goals. Let me help you find a pace and method that works for you and helps you take your skills to the next level.

Featured Review: Great Tutor with extreme patience and creative thinking!! "Curtis is extremely patient and did an incredible job connecting with my daughters. He is very thorough and easy to work with and goes out of his way to be available when needed. He has a well-structured approach that considers their individual needs. He explains problems clearly, quickly identifying where help was needed most, and developed constructive strategies for success. They both really enjoy him and actually look forward to their SAT review sessions! We are very happy with our choice of a tutor!"

About Curtis E:
Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
As a tutor and teacher, Curtis works to student strengths while developing areas that need improvement; he is a firm believer that every student can learn. A literature analysis and writing stickler, he works hard to improve skills and ensure college readiness. Curtis' energy and sense of humor make his sessions popular- he portrays academics in a fun light, akin to what he calls the "mental and spiritual gym" where one learns how to learn while maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
When not working in education, Curtis continues to pursue acting and is currently penning two screenplays. He loves tennis, guitar, cooking, travel, and, most of all, making his wife and kids giggle.

I have worked with Christ Community Church as an assistant kindergarten teacher for five years, focusing on special needs students. I was officially hired as a teacher for a local theater company called Christian Youth Theatre Tucson at age 15 but I have served as a stage crew worker, backstage manager, and volunteer teacher with them for the past five years. I was a competitive debater and public speaker for two years, during which I tutored middle schoolers who were also competing. I have also instructed elementary schoolers in the art of American Kenpo karate for one year.
Currently I am dual-enrolled in Pima Community College as a high schooler, where I am halfway through schooling for an AA degree in Elementary Education. I have been taking college courses since the age of 14 and plan to transfer to the University of Arizona to complete a BA in Education with a minor in Psychology.
