What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When I'm working with new students who are in High School or below. I like to usually set down with both the parents and the student to talk about what might be some major concerns that they might have. And try to start off by reviewing what they already know and work from there.
When I'm working with college students. I will usually talk to them about their majors and what they are planning on doing in the future to try and relate to them the best I can.
No matter what age group I'm working with. I'm always trying to find ways to relate what they like to science so they can link positive things to the subject at hand
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a Biology Major at Zane State College. I work with students one on one and in groups. To help break down the chapter subjects that are being asked of them to understand.
I'm a Regional and a State Judge for The Ohio Academy of Science. Where I got to learn and question the projects that the middle schoolers- high schoolers presented.
What types of students have you worked with?
Middle school
High School
Traditional College students
Non-Traditional College Students
Kids and adults with IEP's and other accommodations
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Even If something seems hard. There is always another way of learning it. Don't stop because you don't understand it the first try.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is it the coursework or just the teaching method you don't understand when being explained something.

I'm Hamzah! I am doing my undergraduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Applied Mathematics. In college, I felt that classes were enjoyable not just because I understood the topic that I was learning. It was the professors who made the class interesting. The professors I had were always engaging and knowledgeable when teaching the material, and were willing t provide extra help when needed. Seeing my professors made me want to become a tutor. Everything that I gained through my professors I try to incorporate in my teaching. I try my level best to give my 110% to the students and I try various styles of teachings to make the material easy to understand. I use lesson plans, lecture notes, practice problems to help teach the material. I try various techniques to keep the students motivated in learning the material. If the student has a difficult time understanding the material I stay with the individual till he or she feels they are confident. My teaching style is balanced for students with various teaching styles, my pace of teaching is well balanced o the point the student is able to understand the material that is being taught.
I have two years’ work of tutoring experience, my location was a University Library where I always held me sessions. I have worked as a teaching assistant for a year and I held my study sessions at the college library. I worked with students who require additional assistance, but also had an entire classroom. These were students who wanted extra help and wanted to stay ahead in the course, I worked with them during the evenings and spent sometimes an entire day to help the students understand the material. All my sessions were held during the night time, these sessions gave students to ask extra questions regarding exams or home works. I also provided extra material for students so that they have extra techniques and problems to practice, this would help build the students confidence. I have tutored College Algebra, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3 and Differential Equations.
I want to help students build their confidence, change their lives and most importantly make them believe that they can be successful in the subject they are learning. I work with anything so if students or parents have material that they would like to share, I am willing to look over it. I am an easy resource that will require quick responses. Do not hesitate to ask questions, because I will always be available to answer. Do not think of me just a tutor, but most importantly think of me as a friend. Feel free to contact me with any additional questions or scheduled lessons!

A continuation of my very brief personal description, I am a second-year student in college and I double-major in English and History with a bridge in Education. I plan on attaining two bachelor's degrees and teaching licensures in both subjects in four years; afterwards, I plan on attending graduate school to complete my masters degree in Education. I am a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an International English Honors Society, and a member of my college's Women's Center Advisory Board. I am also an avid language learning and am in the process of learning ten different languages (French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portueguese, Esperanto, Turkish, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese). I love to read and write (and research essays happen to be my speciality) and help others. I'm hoping to get started and work with some amazing people!

Hello! My name is Samiah, and I am a former medical student looking to change career paths and follow my passion for teaching. I would love to work with you! School was a strong-suit of mine growing up, and I was recruited while in high school to work as a peer tutor, mostly in math (all levels up to Calculus BC). I loved it so much that in college, I worked as a Health and Science instructor in inner city schools through a non-profit organization. I also created my own tutoring program with three other star students. Often times, I also helped with writing, editing essays, and reviewing resumes. My passion for teaching and tutoring didn't stop there though! In medical school, I also worked as a Summer Camp Counselor for a STEM focused camp, helping to develop the science curriculum and implementing it as a counselor. I also worked as a Meditation/Mindfulness course instructor for school age students. These experiences all gave me the qualifications to work as a tutor and a teacher for your needs! In general I think my added experience as a counselor and a medical professional has developed my patience and empathy, which I think are important qualities in an effective educator.
