I started tutoring when I was a junior in high school. My teacher announced that I had gotten a perfect score on my PSAT’s and I was flooded with requests. After I started tutoring SAT's to my classmates I started to realize that not only did I really enjoy teaching, but that I’m also really good at it. When I finished high school I had already tutored students for the SAT's, ACT's, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP English, AP Calculus and AP History. Through high school and college I continued tutoring. I went to Pennsylvania State University for Chemical Engineering with an Option in Fuels & Energy, a minor in Chemistry, a minor in Energy Engineering, and a minor in Environmental Engineering. During college I had tutored college physics up to quantum physics, college chemistry up to organic chemistry II and quantum chemistry, calculus up to advanced differential calculus (Calc 4), and a multitude of other subjects. I’m the guy that you would ask a question to five minutes before a huge exam.
Since 2010 I have been one of the highest rated professional tutors in the country. I tutor every subject taught in elementary, middle and high school, including subjects up to a graduate level. Which isn't limited to any math (calculus, trigonometry, algebra, geometry), any science (biology, physics, chemistry), and of course test preparation (SAT's, SAT II's, ACT's, GRE's, AP's, MCAT's). I also teach any English (reading, writing), history (American, World) or literature subject. I’m willing and capable to learn a specific subject for a student upon request.
I grew up with a passion for learning, which all of my students benefiting. Exuding a positive attitude towards learning while immersing into a difficult subject helps my students thrive. I believe the atmosphere and approach significantly impacts the student’s success. This makes any students feel comfortable dealing with difficult subject. It’s common for a two hour tutoring sessions to feel like 30 minutes.

I could have done a lot of different careers in my life and still can if I choose too. However, I really enjoy teaching and being able to help a student overcome a class or test. Therefore I tutor full time while building my company on the side. Nothing can compare to being able to teach, mentor, inspire and help any student gain confidence in a subject/test. I also do a lot of college counseling as well as help pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-law, and pre-business students get into Medical/Dental/Law/Business school. I love to help a student make the best possible college application, thesis, lab report, technical document, etc.
At this point I have taught and helped hundreds of students from all over the world. Some of these students were online and would work with me via Skype. It is common to have at least one student overseas or whose schedule requires some time over the computer. The age of my students range from 7 to 67 years old. I have had students with ADHD, dyslexia, lack of motivation and genuine hatred for the subject in question. I am able to understand why students struggle with a subject despite their age or background. Because I can connect with my students and because I know the material very well, I can always tell what the student does and doesn't understand. In that respect I have learned how to help my students find the answers themselves without me saying it. I believe in teaching concepts and understanding instead of just memorizing or copying down answers. Without the student realizing it, I can analyze and find out the best possible method for him or her to learn any subject. Each student is unique and I personally enjoy meeting a new person and seeing how they can best learn. I have extensive knowledge in most academic backgrounds and can show the real life applicability of any subject. Whatever your goal is, I can show you how to obtain it.
My schedule changes every week but I can be very flexible, especially if a student has a last minute test or project. I schedule weekly sessions with my students as soon as I can to make sure that every student can be helped as much as possible. I put my heart and soul into every student I meet. Whatever your issues may be, even if they are financial or schedule based, I will always find a way to make things work.

I am a recently retired US State Department Foreign Service Officer and US Naval War College professor. With a degree in Biology, I served as a Fisheries Extension Agent with the Peace Corps in French-speaking Africa before earning my MS in Agriculture, which included lots of Math for irrigation calculations. Worked for nearly a decade in West Africa, where I honed my French language abilities. When I joined the US Foreign Service as an Economic Officer in 1996, I scored a 3+/4 on the Foreign Service Institute French language test. I served for over 20 years as a reporting officer, writing hundreds of diplomatic cables on the subject of microeconomic and macroeconomic issues. I also oversaw (proofreading, editing, suggesting changes) the writing of hundreds more cable reports by supervisees. Some of these went up to the level of Secretary of State. As a final tour with the State Department, I earned my MA at the US Naval War College and taught in the Strategy and Policy Department for two years, teaching History and tutoring military officers to write long essays. I have always been a good test taker (scored 1300 on the SAT as a 14/15 year old) and am currently tutoring my own 13-year-old son for the upcoming SSAT. Hi! My name is Sophia. I am a college student, I have studied Mandarin for five years and passed the AP Chinese exam. I have lots of background on the best study tips for language learning and different tools for better fluency. As a non-native speaker, I understand the difficulties that many face when first starting a foreign language. But with determination and practice, any language is achievable, even if difficult! All you have to do is start.
I believe that all language learning must start with a strong amount of vocabulary. Beginning with the most commonly used words and tested on HSK assessments, students will learn vocab that will assist them with daily conversation and life. To make sure the vocab isn't forgotten, students will practice speaking, writing, and reading the characters. Memorizing how to write the character is not required, but recognizing it is. The first few sessions will revolve around basic aspects of Chinese language, such as the idea of radicals, tones, and pinyin. All teaching will have some connection to Chinese culture and language. Students will work at their own pace based on how well they do on simple vocab quizzes.

I base my lessons on teaching middle school students, preferably 6th or 7th graders, the basics of algebra and preparing them for future courses such as Algebra 1 and Geometry. Within the first two weeks of his sophomore year at Phillips Academy, Andover, Curtis was one of the few students to pass out of the year-long Competence (in writing) requirement. He then continued to stand out in all the English classes meant for juniors and seniors, often receiving the only A+ in the section. Curtis caught the acting bug in college and graduated with a degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. Ultimately, however, he felt the pull towards the greatest show on Earth: education.
Apart from teaching and tutoring English standard and honors classes at Somerville High School for seven years, Curtis also teaches SAT and ACT Prep, MCAS, theatre, and public speaking. In his time there and with other organizations, test scores and rankings have skyrocketed.
