I was also a Montessori teacher for 2 years and was responsible for children ages 0-5 years. In addition to all of this, I am the eldest out of my cousins and siblings in my family and have pretty much taken up responsibility of helping care for them since a very young age. Hello,
I have been tutoring Math for over 14 years for various grades: Middle School, High School, and College. Math is a wonderful subject once you understand it. My primary objective is to help you love Math and enjoy it. Once that is established, nothing will stop you from excelling at Math.
Diplomas: I hold a PhD in Wireless Communications, MS in Telecommunications, and BS in Electrical Engineering.
Tutoring Methods: My tutoring methods involve direct engagement with the student to make sure he/she is really understanding what I am explaining. I always try to provide real life scenarios where certain formulas are applied. This approach helps the student remember the equation or even reconstruct it again based on the scenarios discussed. Everything in Math is applied in our daily life but we are unaware of it because we do not pay attention to it but that does not mean it does not exist. After most sessions, I assign few problems for the student to work on them at home before our next session (these assignments could be chosen from the textbook or I could formulate them myself). This method affirms student understanding of the subjects covered.
Guarantees: I can guarantee you that if you follow the steps I pass onto you and do your homework assigned to you, I have no doubt that you will not only pass the class but also end up with an A. That's based on experience and not talk.

I'm a private math tutor with a BS degree in mathematics. I tutor all math up to Math Analysis and Pre-calculus. I also tutor all three sections of the SAT. I've been tutoring for 19 years. My strength is finding a way to explain a difficult concept in simpler terms that work for each particular student. I love math and children. My love for math started when I was eight when my family and I moved to Texas. I loved the math rallies. As years when by, my love for math kept growing and every year I was even more anxious than the year before to see what else was out there to learn. By the time I was in college there wasn't anything I loved more than having my cup of coffee and my big binder filled with math problems and just cracking my head over them. I found great pleasure in finding a solution and even a greater one in not being able to solve them. I loved the head-scratching, the headaches and of course finding the solution and understanding the problem at the end. I was not able to graduate as I took a job promotion as a general manager which took up much of my time and also got married. My love for children started when I first looked at my little brother, Leonardo. He's now my little math genius which I think sounds awesome! Since then, my views on children changed completely. I really believe kids are the future and the purest things on earth. They should be loved and educated. Each kid is different, each kid has different strenghts and weaknesses, and each kid is capable of greatness. I belive in teaching in way each kid is always motivated and confident. Seeing kids succeed and grow and become awesome people brings joy to my heart. There's nothing I enjoy doing more than spending time with children and even better teaching them a subject i feel so passionate about.

I am a trained teacher with a diploma in education, BA in History and a Master's in Government. I have over 30 years' teaching and tutoring experience. AS as a tutor I do one on one counseling with my students to keep them organized and focused.
I have several years' public speaking experience mainly gained through Toastmasters International. I am a past president of the Minutemen Toastmasters Club with vast public speaking experience.
My tutoring style includes a few minutes of lecturing. I have found that having discussions with my students, having them complete assignments and then reviewing these assignments with them is the best method. I encourage my students to be proactive, asks questions and help them to reason through topics for themselves to ensure that they have grasped the concepts.
In addition, no teaching style works for all students so I always make sure to adapt my methods to the learning style of my student. After all, the most important thing is to make sure my students grasp the concepts and develop the ability to complete tasks independently.

The Galveston Math Tutor
Tutor, Teacher, Instructor
|
I was born and raised in British Columbia, Canada but moved to Texas with my family right after graduatinhigh school and attended Dallas Baptist University the following year. I completed my Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mathematics in 3 years with a cumulative GPA of 3,942 and immediately started teaching. I started my first year teaching in a large public school in inner-city Dallas but after a few months decided that it wasn't a good fit for me. So I packed my things and headed to Fusion Academy Dallas, a unique 1-1 private school where understanding the student's physical, emotional, social and academic needs is key. I completely agreed with their one-on-one, personalized teaching approach and thoroughly enjoyed my time there because I got to build real, authentic relationships with the students and mentor them while teaching them my favorite subject matter. So how did I end up in Galveston, you might ask? Well, my husband is going to medical school at UTMB in the fall, so we moved to this beautiful island paradise and I am striking out on my own. If you are looking for a tutor who not only knows their stuff inside and out, but also cares about who students are as a person and how they are doing emotionally, mentally, socially and academically, give me a call. My tutoring programs are uniquely tailored to each student based on their strengths and weaknesses and are guaranteed to give your student the advantage they need to be successful!

I have 12 years of experience as a teacher and tutor. I believe in finding new and innovative methods of teaching to help students succeed. Each student is unique and what may work for one may not work for another, that is why I take my time to ensure I prepare lessons that are appropriate for each student individually that will help him/her develop the skills needed to improve in class. I have experience working with different age groups and with students with learning disabilities. I have a passion for teaching. I believe every student has the ability to succeed. Sometimes we just need the extra help and someone to care and believe in us to show us the way. I want to continue to be that person for students, someone they can lean on, and help them in their journey to success.

My intellectual curiosity, love of learning, and desire to positively impact the lives of others ultimately lead me into the field of education. I believe that the purpose of education is to equip an individual with the necessary tools to problem solve, effectively communicate, and think critically. The quality of education that children receive in their early years is pivotal to their development and success later in life.
I am currently working as a Kindergarten teacher in an inclusive classroom for Baltimore City Public Schools. I hold two Maryland Educator Certificates, in Elementary Education and Special Education. In May 2016, I completed the Master of Arts in Teaching program at Johns Hopkins University. I also have experience working with students with Autism and other special needs.
I believe that as a teacher, I contribute to the development of dynamic and engaging learning environments for students. I look forward to working with your child/student!
