I believe I could teach most subjects up to the high school level. My ideal student would be self-motivated hungry types who are looking less for help with their textbook and more someone who will challenge by asking out of the box questions that really make you think. Learning to think is a premium when information is so easily available.

I'm a freelance university and community college instructor with over 15 years experience teaching and tutoring various subjects––from English literature and essay writing to creative writing, the humanities (history, philosophy, social sciences, and theology), and public speaking. I've taught at my alma mater New Jersey City University, as well as William Paterson University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Berkeley College, Bergen Community College and Hudson County Community College, and I've given lectures at Montclair State University, Columbia University, and Parson's School of Design. My own writing (poetry, fiction, and nonfiction) has been published in dozens of print and online publication, and I have given a TED talk on fundraising based on my book, Crowdfunding for Filmmakers. I'm looking to put my skills to good use tutoring middle to high school students (ages 13 - 18), college students, and professionals. Workshops and classes are also available, too––just let me know what you need and I'm sure I'll be able to oblige!

I got an experience of working with teenagers when volunteered as a part-time teacher. I have been helping two foreign friends learning and practicing Mandarin for several months and getting positive feedbacks always.
I love communicating with people and helping with learning Mandarin and knowing more about Chinese culture. As an ESL learner, I have always hoped that I can get help and suggestions more often from native speakers. Given I’m a native Mandarin speaker, I have no problems with my fluency and knowledge of Mandarin. I can communicate fluently in English and Mandarin. I’m also keeping learning and practicing how to teach in a more clear and helpful way based on my hands-on experience of helping my friends.
Feel free to contact me and I’m flexible with time.

Hello! I am a rising senior at Wheaton College, studying molecular biology with a speciality in genetics. Along with biology, I also have interests in literature, academic writing, and creative writing. At Wheaton College, I was a group biology tutor from August 2018-May 2019, during which time I helped biology students with difficult topics, homework, comprehension, and test study. I also occasionally tutored struggling biology students in personalized one-on-one sessions. The next year, 2019-2020, I transitioned to a job at the Wheaton College Writing Center where I helped many students with the skill of scientific and academic writing. During my time in this job, I assisted students with editing papers, brainstorming, organizing their writing, learning citation styles, and generally helping them to craft higher-quality papers. I especially enjoyed helping students to write lab reports, scientific literature reviews, and research reports of their own work, encouraging them to blend their writing and scientific skills. Though biology and academic writing are my greatest strengths, I also love literature and creative writing. I took several elective writing classes at Wheaton to pursue my writing hobbies of poetry, short stories, and fantasy/sci-fi novels, and I even won the first place Lowell-Grabel creative writing poetry contest award for a poem about science! My varied interests intersect in ways that can truly be beneficial to a student looking for extra academic support in many different areas.
COVID-19 is changing the way students learn and interact with academic material. Instead of losing momentum during this time of crisis, I would like to propel you or your student through challenging material and remind them of the joy of learning, as well as the intricacies of the world around them. I believe that this can be done while staying safe at home! I would love to tutor students age 7-adult. Please reach out to me or schedule a time to meet if I fit your academic needs and interests.

Serkan Kabak
Tutor, Teacher, Instructor

Hello, my name is Serkan www.*** I have graduated from a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in San Jose State University and later obtained my master’s degree in physical chemistry in San Francisco State University. As part of a chemistry program, I have also taken a sufficient amount of advanced math and physics courses (up to 2 years).
Prior to my graduate program, I worked as a tutor for 1–2 years obtaining nearly 100 hours of one-on-one tutoring with high school and college students on subjects including chemistry, physics, and advanced math subjects. Much of my tutoring experience has been through Wyzant and other tutoring agencies. I really enjoyed the experience and have improved the grades and performances of many of my students.
During my graduate program, I worked as a teaching assistant (TA) for 2–3 years, in which my supervisor was the dean of the department. This job involved me teaching laboratory sections for general chemistry courses with up to 30 students in some classes. I helped prepare my students for midterms, finals, and supervised them through the conceptual and hands-on experiences of experimental chemistry on a bi-weekly basis.
I generally tutor in a way to get my students to really enjoy the subject they are learning and try to get them to think creatively towards solving problems. I realize that of one of the greatest hurdles students have in learning physical sciences (e. g. chemistry and physics) and math subjects is the lack of visual teaching to help them connect complex concepts in their minds. In order to overcome this, I generally take a more visual approach to get students to be able to “see” the concepts in their minds. That way, students obtain a deeper understanding of the material, which not only helps them to pass the class, but also gives them insight of the subject that will help them in future coursework.
I offer tutoring in chemistry (just about all kinds except biochemistry), college physics, and math courses (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, and statistics). I really encourage students who are interested in improving their grades in these subjects to contact me. If you are patient and willing to do the work, I promise I can help you boost your grades and improve your performances in your classes. My first meeting is always a FREE consultation session. If you feel that I am not the person for you, there’s no charge on your part. I hope we can work together to improve your coursework and help you pass those classes.
Hope to see you soon!

As a native French speaker and an educator with over twenty-five years of international teaching experience, I believe my knowledge of both subjects and students will be of value to your institution.
I have developed teaching strategies (constructivist practice) and ethical positions (fairness for all) that motivate students and stir them to reach their individual potential. I am experienced and qualified to teach a variety of students, from the very earliest pre-kindergartners to advanced learners.
High standards of organization, planning and consistent use of assessments allow me to systematically facilitate growth and learning. My teaching philosophy privileges student engagement in order to attain student expression. My philosophy prepares students to be global citizens. Students must not only study grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure, but they must be able to communicate through speaking and listening. They must understand cultural norms and subtleties. My strategies include direct instruction, facilitating age-appropriate literacies such as research and presentation and structured conversations intent on expanding student perception of the larger world.
My goal is to assist in their joyful growth and development and inspire my students to use their intellects as they create a meaningful and noble life.
